LUNGU TOURS SOUTH
By ANDREW MUKOMA PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu was yesterday in Southern Province for a one day working visit. Mr Lungu started his programme in Namwala to grace the Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) field day. Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary, Trymore Mwenda, said that President Lungu has placed agriculture top on the agenda of diversifying the country’s economy from mining. “As the ruling party in Southern Province, we welcomed his Excellency as he tirelessly continues to deliver for the people of Zambia across many sectors such as education, health, fisheries and livestock and infrastructure. “We therefore wish to urge him to remain undaunted by his critics whose main mission is to derail his focus on which the Zambian people gave him the mandate in 2016 and will renew that mandate come 12th August, 2021 primarily because of the many developments he and his government has been able to deliver thus far,” he said. Mr Mwenda said the President’s visit to Southern Province this week comes a few days after he was in Siavonga District during which he oversaw the fish harvest for some women cooperatives. “We look forward to receiving the President in Namwala District for another show of the great transformation he is scoring in agriculture, which under his leadership is on the right path and will soon see Southern Province restored as the country’s food basket in the region,” he said.
