Lukanga Water ‘leaking’ revenue
KETRA KALUNGA writes LUKANGA Water Supply and Sanitation Company (LgWSSC) is losing revenue through illegal water connections by some clients, managing director, Yoram Sinyangwe has said. And Mr Sinyangwe said the water utility company has recorded a drop incash flow following non payment of bills by some customers. Mr Sinyangwe stated the company has been losing revenue through illegal activities such as meter by-pass and illegal connections from some customers to avoid payment of bills. Speaking yesterday during a media in Kabwe, Mr Sinyangwe indicated that about 10 customers or more have been tampering with the metrereadings in a month which he said was theft. The managing director warned that those found wanting would be brought to book because they were stealing from the company. “We have been losing revenue not only through linkages but through metre by-pass, those found wanting will be brought to book,” said MrSinyangwe. He said to curb the vice, the company would soon embark on a physical and detailed inspection of the water metres. And Mr Sinyangwe said the water utility company has recorded a drop incash flow following non-payment of bill by some customers. He said the drop in cash flow has put the water utility company in a difficult situation in the provision of adequate and reliable service provision. Mr Sinyangwe further said some clients have relaxed their commitment to settle their water and sanitation bills because of immunity against disconnections due to the coronavirus. “The response has been poor as some have even stated that they will only resume their obligation once the community against disconnections has been lifted,” said Mr Sinyangwe. Meanwhile, LgWSSC has received four metric tonnes of water treatment chemicals valued at about K286,000 from SNV a Netherlands Development Organisation. Mr Sinyangwe said SNV has further provided equipment valued at about K700, 000 for the rehabilitation of some critical sewer pump stations. And Mr Sinyangwe has commended the government for the support rendered to the company during the COVID-19 global pandemic period. The Sun
