Luapula to meet Province fish fingerling demand – Dr Phiri

LUAPULA Province will soon be producing enough fish fingerlings to cater for the entire Province, out-going Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Felix Phiri has disclosed. The Permanent Secretary explained that Government through the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) has empowered youths in Mwense District with a hatchery to be producing Fish fingerlings so as to cushion the demand for fish in the Province. Dr. Phiri points out that part of the support also came from the TRALARD Project which is currently going on in the Province. He explains that the youths have already started producing Fish fingerlings on their 250 hectares of land. ZANIS reports that Dr. Phiri indicates that previously the Northern Region has been relying on fish fingerlings from Lusaka and other parts of the country. The Permanent Secretary notes that with a Hatchery now in place fish farmers will be able to have their fingerlings on time and this will boost the Fish industry in the Province. Dr. Phiri explains that the empowering of some youths in Mwense District is a clear demonstration of how Government wants to change the lives of young people. He discloses that Luapula Province has a number of Projects such as TRALAD which will see a number of youths benefit. Dr. Phiri has since urged young people in the Province to take full advantage of the many empowerment programs which are in place. He points out that Government will continue coming up with programs aimed at ensuring the interests of young people in the country are taken care of. The Sun
