Luapula seeks national food basket status
BAHATI Member of Parliament Charles Chalwe has urged farmers in his constituency to increase their hectarage during the 2020/2021 farming season. Speaking during an interactive forum with some headmen in Chief Mibenge’s Chiefdom in Mansa, Mr. Chalwe noted that during the past farming season most farmers in his constituency did fairly well as compared to other farming seasons. Mr. Chalwe has applauded farmers in his constituency for their efforts, saying the efforts of the farmers are a clear sign that Luapula will soon become the country’s food basket. Mr. Chalwe observed that Luapula Province always has a favourable climate for farming and good rains that farmers can take advantage of. Meanwhile, Sub Chief Chamawabuseba has commended the government for the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) saying through the program, he managed to farm one hectare of maize. The traditional leader stated that many people in the province have shown great interest towards farming as it is one of the ways they can improve their livelihood. – ZANIS The Sun
