LUANSHYA IS YEARNING FOR GROWTH, SAYS DEMOCRATIC PARTY CANDIDATE THOMSON NG’AMBI
By SANFROSSA MANYINDA DEMOCRATIC Party (DP) Luanshya Central aspirant Thomson Ng’ambi has expressed worry on the high levels of unemployment in the mining town. Mr Ng’ambi said it was sad that the little economic activities that had been going on for the past years were dwindling alongside employment levels. He said in an interview yesterday that this could not sustain the town despite it being the once mining giant town. “This is not supposed to be the case for a once mining giant town because the economy of the town depended and still depends on the mines. We have the Luanshya Copper Mine here which has only offered very little job opportunities for the people in the town. “The deplorable state of recreation facilities as well as the dilapidation of the road network also makes it almost difficult to attract real investment in the city which I feel is not supposed to be the case,” Mr Ng’ambi said. Mr Ng’ambi observed that all recreation facilities that were left by the ZCCM in the town had gone down on allegations that Chinese investors did not believe in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that could keep the youths busy. He advised Government to come up with a deliberate policy that would compel foreign investors to start supporting youth projects and activities. Mr Ng’ambi added that agriculture, youth empowerment programmes, a proper road network needed to always be the epi-centre of the economic and social development for the city.
