Low covid-19 adherence worries councillor
NOEL IYOMBWA writes MTENDERE ward 30 councilor Watson Mtonga has expressed concern with the low levels of Covid 19 adherence in the area. In a telephone interview, Mr. Mtonga said that people  have continued ignoring the guidelines for preventing the spread of the virus. He said that people in markets and other places such as shops and tuntembas are not taking the Covid 19 pandemic seriously. “People in Mtendere ward have befriended the Covid-19 such that most people don’t wear masks and are not observing social distancing in public places such markets which is a danger and should be taken seriously because once we have a case it means a lot of people will be infected,” he said. He said that Mtendere is one of the most densely populated areas in Lusaka adding that his fear is that once there is a pandemic, a lot of people can be infected. Mr. Mtonga however said that his office is trying by all means to ensure that people are sensitized on the dangers of the virus. The civic leader further warned the general public to take the Covid 19 pandemic seriously as the number of cases and deaths keep on increasing in the country. “Prevention is better than cure. Let’s all adhere to the guidelines regarding the prevention measures because Covid 19 is real and people are dying in other countries. Here in Zambia we are lucky that we have only recorded few cases but if we don’t take precautions the number might keep on increasing,” he said. The Sun
