LIVINGSTONE RESIDENTS DROP GUARD AND NO LONGER WEARING MASKS
By ANDREW MUKOMA THE Livingstone District Health Office has expressed worry with people’s laxity in adhering to preventive guidelines on the Covid-19 pandemic in the city. Apparently, a good number of residents have stopped wearing face masks, observing social distancing and washing of hands. District Environmental Health Officer, Mulenga Malata, observed that if the current continue, the number of Covid-19 cases might begin to rise again. Mr Malata urged residents to stick to the rules in view of the possible outbreak of the third wave of the pandemic, especially with the coming of winter season. He noted that many people had dropped their guard and were moving about in a “business as usual fashion. Mr Malata said, Covid-19 was still active and claiming people’s lives in many parts of the world. He said therefore, residents should not underestimate the threats the third wave of the virus around June, this year. As of Wednesday, Zambia had recorded 171 new positive Covid-19 cases from the 6, 640 tests done in the 24:00 hrs bringing the cumulative number to 90, 389 cases.
