LATEST POLL PUTS LUNGU AHEAD
By OLIVER SAMBOKO WITH only six days before the nation goes to elect a new president, the latest opinion poll has put President Edgar Lungu ahead of his rival Hakainde Hichilema of UPND in next week’s General Election. The poll conducted by the Political Science Association of Zambia in collaboration with Farraline of the United Kingdom has projected that President Lungu will win by 56.8 percent. Several other option polls done previously have already predicted victory for President Lungu and the PF. Political Science Association of Zambia President and Political Science Lecturer and Investigator Joe Ndambwa disclosed yesterday that the opinion poll was conducted in five provinces namely, Lusaka, Muchinga, North-western, Central and Northern. “The survey suggests that if elections were held today, PF candidate Edgar C. Lungu would get 56.8% followed by UPND candidate Hakainde Hichilema with 40%. Fred M’membe of Socialist Party scored 1.34%, Harry Kalaba of the DP would get 0.5%, Andyford Banda would get 0.21% while undecided voters would be at 1.06%.,” he said. He said according to the findings UPND candidate Hakainde Hichilema will come second at 40 percent with Fred M’membe of Socialist Party at 1.4 percent. The poll also shows that Harry Kalaba of the Democratic Party will only score 0.5 percent, while PAC candidate, Andyford Banda is likely to score 0.1 percent. The survey also indicate that 0.6 percent still undecided.
