Kapiri Bus Station works near completion

KETRA KALUNGA writes THE K1.2 milion Kapiri Mposhi main bus station under construction is scheduled to be ready by the end of June following the release of funds by the government towards the project, Council public relations officer, Chris Mulaliki has said. Mr Mulaliki said the government released K500,000 to the contractor paving the bus station to complete the remaining works. He said in an interview with the Daily Nation, that the paving of the bus station which started in 2018 with a six months period had derailed due to lack of funding.  Mr Mulaliki said the contractor who had demobilized from the construction site due to lack of funds has since resumed  works after receiving the funds. “Government through the NRFA released about K500,000 second banding to the contractor and  this will enable the contractor to do the remaining works,” said Mr Mulakili. He said the local authority was hopeful that the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) funded project would be ready for use by the end of June with the release of funds so that the station could be used by the bus and taxi operators.  Mr. Mulakili said the local authority has so far constructed a public toilet at the facility and has embarked on the construction of a bus shelter to be used by commuters. He said paving the bus station was important for Kapiri Mposhi given a lot of traffic flow experienced in the district which is at the centre of the country. The contract to pave the bus station was awarded in January 2018 to the contractor at a cost of K1.2 million and the project was supposed to be completed within six months. The Sun
