By JACKSON MAPAPAYI A 28-year-old man of Kalumbila has committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree, thinking that he had killed his neighbour’s child. According to North-Western Province Commissioner of Police, Joe Njase, the incident happened between Monday and Tuesday at Kisasa area and identified the deceased as Golden Kabwiku. “We received a report that Gideon Kabwiku aged 28, of Kisasa that he committed suicide by means of hanging himself on a tree. “Police visited the scene and the deceased person was found hanging on a tree using a shoe lace with protruding tongue,” he said. He explained that the reason for hanging himself was that Kabwiku wanted to beat his wife Esther Mushapa aged 24 with a stick but missed her and hit a neighbour’s child Winter Samalapa. He said the child, who is six-years-old, sustained serious facial injuries and fainted there and then which made Kabwiku think that the young boy had died. “So, he committed suicide to avoid the wrath of the law,” he said. Mr Njase said the child was alive and admitted to Lumwana District Hospital while Kabwiku’s body has been deposited in the mortuary awaiting burial.
