Kafwaya hails Wash Zambia for Covid-19 initiative
SILUMESI MALUMO writes @SunZambian THOSE spearheading the fight against Covid-19 must heed the directive by President Edgar Lungu to ensure that no one is harassed, Minister of Transport and Communications Mutotwe Kafwaya has said. The minister said during, the disinfection of Intercity Bus Terminus in Lusaka, that the President had given a directive which needed to be respected. Wash Zambia conducted the disinfection of Intercity Bus Terminus. Mr Mutotwe hailed Wash Zambia for the initiative to disinfect 50 public places and 5,000 households in Lusaka. Mr Mutotwe said the Zambian-owned company had injected about K1.5 million to actualise the initiative. Meanwhile, the transport minister said enforcers should advise people to adhere to the health guidelines provided by the authorities and not harass them. “His Excellency President Edgar Lungu has directed that the public should not be harassed, so it is important that as the people given the responsibility heed to the directive,” he said. The Wash Zambia spirit, he said, was commendable because it was aimed at protecting the people from contracting Covid-19. “I am reliably informed that the initiative was launched yesterday (Wednesday) and about K1.5 million has be secured for this programme. What Wash Zambia has done means patriotism and sacrifice. “Others have been focusing on talking about the problem we have but you as Wash Zambia you have focused on solving the problem. And in addition it has partnered with Lusaka City Council and government to ensure that this Covid-19 is washed away,” Mr Mutotwe said. He implored other private institutions to emulate Wash Zambia because there was need for concerted efforts to eradicate the pandemic.
