Kafue Lower power plant on course
SILUMESI MALUMO writes @SunZambian ZESCO is now conducting technical tests in readiness for the commissioning the 750 megawatts Kafue Gorge Lower power plant, Minister of Energy Mathew Nkhuwa has said. Mr Nkhuwa said people should not be swayed by the propaganda being spread by the opposition that the announcement for commissioning the Kafue Gorge Lower was just for political expediency. The Minister said Government was keen to ensure that the power deficit which the country had faced for some time now was addressed by bringing on board the 750 megawatts Kafue Gorge Lower power plant. He said in an interview yesterday that the power utility company was working round the clock to ensure that the commissioning of units was actualised. Mr Nkhuwa said: “People need to be patient regarding the commissioning of the Kafue Gorge Lower. At an appropriate time we will inform as when the first unit will be commissioned.” He said that Zambians should not believe that Government was playing politics over the issue which was critical to the country’s economy.
