‘IGNORING COVID-19 RULES IS SUICIDAL’
By ANDREW MUKOMA A Covid-19 survivor in Zimba has urged the public to play their part in the fight against the pandemic as ignoring preventive measures is suicidal. Ms Catherine Chibele observed that it was sad that some members of the public were not adhering to the health protocols as guided by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) to combat the spread of the virus. Ms Chibele, a resident of Luyaba village, said Covid-19 was real and citizens should not consider it as a hoax. She shared her experience at the time of her illness that ignoring the guidelines such as masking up in public, sanitizing and maintaining physical distance among others was suicidal. Ms Chibele also urged citizens to stop organising or taking part in celebrations that flout the current Covid-19 safety protocols and endanger lives. She contended that a lack of discipline by members of the public was helping to spur the number of cases. “These are unprecedented and trying times, and we continue to urge our citizens to follow the protocols and be disciplined. But… the indiscipline that is innate [in a] large cross section of the society has resulted in more cases day by day,” she opined.
