I WILL REDUCE CABINET – HH
By NOEL IYOMBWA An opposition leader contesting the presidential elections set for August this year has pledged to reduce the size of Cabinet from 28 to 18 should he be elected. National Party for Unity President Highvie Hamududu made the pledge at the launch of his party manifesto in Lusaka and said leaders must be ready to serve the people. Mr Hamududu said that leaders must go down to the grassroot to understand the challenges that people are facing on the ground. He said political parties must have a stance and be predictable and that this can only be possible by having an ideology. Mr Hamududu noted that it is the responsibility of government to provide opportunities for all the people and create employment and that this can only be achieved   when majority get involved in creating jobs. He also said it should be everyone’s preoccupation   to improve the economy by creating employment. Mr Hamududu pledged to reduce size of cabinet from the current 28 to 18 to cut on cost. Mr Hamududu said Zambia has been losing colossal sums of money due to an oversized cabinet, therefore  reducing it will help to remove the burden off the treasury. Meanwhile Mr Hamududu has promised to address the challenges farmers face by introducing sound and practical agriculture policies that meet their immediate needs. Mr Hamududu said for years, successive governments have ignored the role agriculture plays in the growth of the economy which has in turn led to high poverty levels among the majority citizenry.
