I NEVER THREATENED SANGWA, SAYS KAMBA
By SIMON MUNTEMBA TREATING lawyer John Sangwa as a political opponent is not threating his life and I will not apologise because his actions are typically that of a frustrated opposition politician, says PF Lusaka Province chairperson Kennedy Kamba. Mr Kamba was reacting to demands by the Law Association of Zambia for him to withdraw what it termed as “threats” issued against Mr Sangwa. Mr Kamba said he will not retract his remarks because he did not threaten Mr Sangwa’s life but merely stated the facts. He said Mr Sangwa’s continued futile attempts to block President Edgar Lungu from contesting the August 12 elections, were typically that of a frustrated opposition politician who must be treated as such. “Unless somebody can convince the nation and indeed myself that treating someone as a political opponent in a democratic dispensation like Zambia means threatening someone’s life or violence. “The simple illustration and meaning of my statement was that Mr Sangwa’s behaviour and his continued futile attempts to block President Edgar Lungu from contesting the August elections, is typically that of a frustrated opposition politician and as the PF we are going to take him on as a political opponent,” Mr Kamba said. He said his political opponents were deliberately misinterpreting his remarks to portray him as a violent person when he was not. He said the PF’s political opponents wanted to disturb its campaign strategies, and negatively sway the minds of supportive Zambians. Mr Kamba charged that Mr Sangwa and some opposition leaders, including opposition-inclined clergy and media organisations had misinterpreted his statement. He challenged all those that were accusing him of having threatened Mr Sangwa’s life to play back the footage of the event of last Saturday.
