Housewife sticks to polygamous hubby
MARY PHIRI writes A woman in Ndola has told a local court that she does not mind to stay with her husband who is fond of marrying many women as long as he accorded her the respect as first wife. The woman has since won a reconciliation case against her husband, who has moved in with another woman. In this case, Charity Musonda, 47, sued Davis Mwaba, 50, of Copperland Township for marriage reconciliation. The two got married in 1992 when her husband paid K5 as dowry and have six children together. Musonda said problems in their marriage started when the man started having an affair with a woman in Chifubu and fathered a child outside marriage. She said that at one time her husband went on a business trip where he also got married to another woman he just met there.  “In 2016 he impregnated another woman in Lubuto and paid Lobola and later on went on marring her without my consent and from the time he married this woman there has no peace in our marriage  and he never sleeps at home, ” she said. She told the court that she did not mind her husband marrying other women so long as he respected her and provided for the house for she was his first wife. In his defence, Mwaba said the problem with his wife was that she drinks too much and when she drinks she would insult him and disrespected him. Mwaba said that his wife did not like his parents and this had forced him to stay away from her adding that he had never left the house but rather he was sharing days with all his wives. He added that all his wives had to wait for their turn. He said she was aware that he had intended to marry another woman and that they all knew each other. “If one of my wives makes noise I move and go to the other just to get a peace of mind,” he added. Magistrate Mildred Namwizye reconciled the two and counselled them to live in harmony and how Mwaba could live with many wives. She ordered Mwaba to be supporting his wives and told him to be spending three days with the first wife and two days with the second wife. The Sun
