‘Guzzling’ woman loses marriage

MARY PHIRI writes A MAN has dumped his wife, accusing her of spending more time drinking and insulting him each time he attempts to counsel her. Joseph Munakwa, 33, was granted divorce after he insisted that his wife of one year did not have respect for him and that she was “dedicated” to drinking beer all the time. He dragged his wife, Priscilla Chibwe 27, to the Kabushi Local Court. Munakwa in his testimony said the two got married last year in March and together they had one child. He was giving testimony before local court presiding Magistrate, Evelyn Nalwizya, sitting with Mildred Namwizye He said her wife used to insult him and would drink so much that he decided to divorce her.  “My wife has dedicated most of her time to beer. We have had countless family meetings but she does not change, I don’t want to stay with her anymore, I just want this marriage to end,” he insisted. But Chibwe told the court that her husband was fond of keeping late nights and had a lot of lovers outside their marriage.  “I can’t even express myself in our marriage because he is always beating me. So the last time he beat me I reported him to the police and he was arrested, that’s why he is so bitter that h he has decided to end our marriage,” she said. The court granted divorce and ordered Munakwa to compensate his wife K5,000 in monthly instalments of K500 and share what they acquired together. The Sun
