Govt probes Covid Z

LINDA SOKO TEMBO writes INVESTIGATIONS into the circumstances surrounding the manufacture, distribution and sales of the “COVID Z” drug purported to cure Corona Virus in Zambia has commenced. In a jointed statement, Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and the Zambian Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) have noted with concern reports in some sections of media regarding the “COVID Z” medicine purported to cure Covid-19. The statement said the purported medicine COVID Z was allegedly being manufactured, distributed and sold in Zambia by some health practitioners The two institution advised the public to refrain from purchasing and consuming COVID Z, as it was uncertified and could result into adverse effects.    “As guided by the Ministry of Health and Zambia National Public Health Institute Members of the public are urged to practice basic hand hygiene through washing of hands regularly using soap and water or use of alcohol-based hand sanitizers,” as stated in the statement.    The statement said the two institution wished to remind both registered health practitioner, researchers and the pharmaceutical industry to follow laid down procedures and regulations or risk prosecutions.
