Fish-farming project hope for youths
LILLIAN CHIKANDI writes THERE is great hope in the Government funded Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission fish farming project, says Chirundu district administrative officer O’neil Chiiya. Mr Chiiya advised youths against losing hope in the project because about 10 groups had already been considered while others were still under scrutiny. He said the funds were being rolled out in phases and hoped that all the applicants with viable business plans would be considered and empowered. Mr Chilia was speaking when he addressed youths at the Ministry of Youth and Sport organized sensitization meeting. And Chirundu district arts advisory committee chairperson, Noah Sinkala, expressed hope that the district was able to smell the winds of development targeted towards the youths. Mr Sinkala said following a series of meeting with officials from the Lusaka provincial arts committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sport, it was in public domain that Government was concentrating on empowering the youths in the district. Mr Sinkala who is also district fisheries and livestock coordinator was however, quick to mention that most youths in Chirundu who had ventured into productive fields had not been spared from the adverse effects of Covid-19 pandemic. He said the youth were looming the streets because of the global pandemic and noted the need to diversify so that the youth could remain viable and productive in the district. Mr Sinkala added that the district needed a skills training centre so that they could be equipped with different skills. The Sun
