Eight year old girl dies in fatal road accident
An eight year old school girl in Kabompo district has died after being by hit by a motor vehicle. The fatal road traffic accident occurred on Friday around 14:00 hours at Mumbeji area along Kabompo-Zambezi road after a Kitwe man who was driving a Toyota Hilux ALF 6895 hit into her due to excessive speed. North-Western Province Commissioner of Police, Elias Chushi confirmed the incident in a media statement yesterday. “Fatal Road traffic accident occurred on 13/08/20 at around 14:08 hours along Kabompo-Zambezi road at Mumbezhi area”, Mr Chushi said. He identified the driver as M’Kanwa Chewe aged 44, of house number 5454 Kitwe and the deceased as Queen Maki of Sangelenge village, a grade two pupil at Chizozu primary school. “Involved was M’Kanwa Chewe aged  44 of house number 5454 Kitwe who whilst driving a Toyota Hilux ALF 6895 in the direction of west to east due to excessive speed hit a pedestrian namely; Queen Maki aged 8 years of Sangelenge village of Kabompo district, a grade two pupil of Chizozu school”, Mr Chushi said. He added that the girl, who died on the spot, sustained multiple fractures on her body and is currently in Kabompo district hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while the driver has since been detained in police custody and will be charged for causing death by dangerous driving. Meanwhile speaking in a separate interview Kabompo District Commissioner, Patrick Kasoka described the accident as unfortunate as it occurred at a market area where drivers need to be cautious. “The accident is regrettable and unfortunate as it occurred at a busy public place.  Drivers should follow rules, how can you drive over 100 when the road is 60 kilometers per hour limit, Mr Kasoka said. He appealed to residents to be cautious and drivers to follow all road regulations and speed limit to avoid such accidents. “I am appealing to the drivers to follow the road regulations especially when driving towards busy places. Our residents should also be cautious as they use busy roads”, Mr Kasoka said. The Sun
