Dozing in court earns man rebuke
Rabecca  Banda writes @SunZambian A Lusaka man has been cautioned for dozing in court. Appearing at the Lusaka magistrates court before magistrate Thabita Mulenga was Bornface Ngoma charged with the offence of house breaking and theft. Particulars of the offence were that Ngoma on November 30 20 allegedly broke into the store of Loveness Daka and stole one barbing Machine and a Philips radio all worth K1,800. Magistrate Mulenga read the charge to Ngoma and he pleaded not guilty. Magistrate: Did you not know that you were coming to court today? Ngoma: yes I know Magistrate: why have you come to court drunk. Ngoma: I do not drink beer, I am tired. I slept at a funeral and that’s the reason I was dozing. Magistrate: you are an accused person and yet you are dozing, how will you pay attention to what is said concerning your case? Ngoma: I did not know what I was doing. The state prosecutor said Ngoma has a tendency of going to court drunk. Magistrate Mulenga warned Ngoma that the court is not a place to play and therefore he should be serious on how he conducts himself. She warned Mulenga to not dose in her court or appear before her drunk at the next sitting.
