DISCIPLINE ROWDY CADRES, PF URGED
By SIMON MUNTEMBA THE Patriotic Front (PF) government should act firmly to end political violence by some of its rowdy cadres before the situation gets out, the New Heritage Party has advised. Party president, Chishala Kateka, said in an interview there was urgent need to end political hooliganism which has the potential not only to scare away investors. She condemned the violence that happened at the PF Secretariat last week at which people including journalists were injured and property damaged. “PF should act firmly to stop such behaviour from its cadres before a situation gets out of hand,” Ms Kateka said. She said New Heritage Party party would bring to an end the unlawful act by youths in politics by disarming all political cadres. “We abhor and totally condemn and discourage all unlawful acts by youths, otherwise known as cadres who belong to certain political parties,” she said. She added: “this dispensation is retrogressive and thrives on both ignorance of the human rights and fundamental freedoms enshrined in our laws, and arrogance of unfettered powers unwisely unleashed to them by some within the corridors of power.” Ms Kateka said they would not entertain young people whose focus was to harm others and engage in criminal activities. “We will not entertain youths whose focus is to disempower the opposition from enjoying their fundamental rights and freedoms, youths who engage in illegal activities especially conjuring up and collecting daily levies in trading places,” she said.
