Dickson Jere donates beds to the aged
SIMON MUMTEMBA Writes @SunZambian LUSAKA Lawyer, Dickson Jere, has donated new beds and mattresses to the Matero Aftercare which shelters the homeless and aged people in society. Mr Jere who made the donation yesterday said it was disheartened to see the aged people sleeping on the floor while others on broken beds and worn out mattresses. He, therefore, decided to come to the aid of the Centre through his donation. “One hostel had no beds and our parents were sleeping the floor. I was touched when I saw the situation at the center and I thought I make a difference through this gesture,” Mr Jere said when he presented the donations. The Centre, which currently has 25 people housed in the hostel, has been facing challenges and reached out to Mr Jere who runs a charity program called Matero Initiative aimed at helping the needy in the area. Mr Jere said the donation had been made possible through his collaboration with a newly established furniture company in Zambia called Mediacom run by his friend Hussein Malek. And director of the Centre Liz Walima thanked Mr Jere for the donation and urged him to continue being the friend of the Centre especially that the beds and mattresses were his second donation this year. “It is a good Christmas gift to the Centre. This will help our aged in society to sleep comfortably,” Ms Walima said. She said the center was having problems with warm water during the cold season. Mr Jere has promised to look for a solar geyser to easy the problem.
