DC vows to whip MP

SUN REPORTER writes I AM going to flog and whip the UPND area member of Parliament, Darius Mulunda for going against Presidential directive on COVID 19, Siavonga District commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has warned.

But the Siavonga MP has dared Mr Kanyama to to try, warning that what the District Commissioner was planning was going to land him in big trouble.

“Kanyama is playing with a lion’s tail, let him come and whip me and see what is going to happen to him,” Mr Mulunda warned.

Mr Mulunda is reported to have condemned the Siavonga DC for brutally whipping an old man in Chaanga area along the Bottom Road, whom he had found drinking beer at a bar and not wearing a face mask.

Mr Kanyama was recently also captured on two videos that went viral on social media, chasing two unnamed people he found consuming alcohol.

He warned that as long as he lives, he was going to continue canning individuals found patronising bars or encouraging others to disregard clear presidential directives aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19 in the country Mr Kanyama said it was foolish for the area member of parliament to expect him to lock himself in the house for fear of contracting the Coronavirus at the expense of providing leadership to the fight against the virus in the district.

The outspoken DC said it was  disappointing for the area member of parliament who is supposed to be in forefront educating his constituents on the importance of adhering to health guidelines, to be the one encouraging people to disregard the law.

“It’s disappointing to see the MP siding with individuals going against the fight against the spread of corona virus, the next time I find him doing anything against the Presidential orders, I’m going to whip him so that others can also learn that disregarding the laws does not pay,” he said.

Mr Kanyama also noted with sadness that despite him monitoring and whipping of disobedient residents, the people in the area had still continued to defy the orders not to open bars.

“I have kept enough cane sticks for using to instill discipline on any individual, whether male or female, even the area member of Parliament if he is found patronising bars,” he said.

He said the United Party for National Development (UPND) was not going to intimidate him from carrying out his duties of ensuring that Government programs were running in the district.
