LINDA SOKO TEMBO writes ABOUT 600 elderly and sickly inmates in four different correctional facilities countrywide will receive warms clothing as a measure to prevent them from contracting the COVID-19 pandemic, Mother of Million Foundation has said.  Mother of Million Foundation founder, Faith Kalungia said the foundation had come up with a campaign dubbed “The Keep Warm Campaign” for correctional facilities across Zambia aimed at keeping them warm during this cold season and in line with public health guidelines.  In an interview, Ms Kalungia said that it was a well-known fact during the cold season cases of common cold, flu and chest infections increase and as a foundation they wanted to supplement government’s efforts by reaching out to the inmates who were at high risk of coronavirus contraction by providing them with warm cloths.  Ms Kalungia said that as a foundation they had taken it upon themselves to dress and warm the inmates and that the aid hampers also contained toothpaste, warm clothes, deodorant, and full hygiene products among others. “We are targeting four big correctional facilities in Lusaka, Kabwe, Kitwe, Solwezi we would like to reach out to many correctional facilities as possible if we can get the much needed support, “We are appealing to our fellow Zambians to contribute to this noble cause by giving coats, blankets and warm cloths  among others so that we can support ours brothers and sisters,” she said.  Ms Kalungia thanked President Edgar Lungu for pardoning over 3,000 inmates during Africa Freedom Day and urged government to collaborate with organisations and foundations that worked with inmates to help them in rehabilitating ex-inmates. She said that as a foundation they appreciated the fact that inmates were pardoned from prison “we believe that much more can be done to ensure that they contribute to the economic development of this country if they are well integrated.” The Sun
