Choma man gets 5 years for stock theft
Mulenga Musonda writes @sunzambian The Choma Magistrates Court has convicted a 21 years old man for stealing four cows valued at nearly K20, 000. Busiku Mukonka, seemingly energetic with a diminutive stature received the five years sentence for the offence of Stock Theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that Mukonka stole four Cows valued at K18, 000 the property of Clive Habwaato. The theft occurred on December 15, 2020 in Choma when the owner discovered that four of his animals were missing after securing them the previous night. When he appeared for Facts before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo after pleading guilty earlier, Mukonka admitted that the statement read to him was a true reflection of what happened. According to the Facts stated by Senior Public Prosecutor Charles Chinzai, the accused was apprehended red handed with the animals in Mapanza area of Choma rural with his friend who managed to escape. In passing the five  years minimum mandatory sentence with hard labour, Magistrate Mupemo observed the fact that Mukonka was still youthful and had pleaded guilty as such deserved lenience.
