CHOMA HEALTH CENTRES SCORE 70 P.C. STAFF LEVELS
By MULENGA MUSONDA A health survey conducted in Choma district, Southern Province, has indicated an over 70 per cent staff presence at 10 health centers out of the 14 sampled. The survey that was conducted by Action Aid International Zambia with support from GIZ and data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire, which showed that out of the 14 health centers sampled, 10 had at least 1-8 health staff representing 71.4 per cent. The presentation that was done by Action Aid Tax Education Project Coordinator, Kaalu Mubita, further showed that seven health centers from the 14 Sampled had been in existence from 1- 25 years. Ms Mubita said the rationale for conducting the Community Score Card Report was to contribute to the push for change in service delivery. The survey was conducted under the ‘Enhancing Civil Society Demand for Transparency and Accountability’ project. “The essence of the survey was to assess how health service delivery pillars like infrastructure, sanitation, financing through grants and doctor – patient ratios were delivered in the sampled health facilities,” she said Voster Hanzala, one of the community members who was present during the presentation in Choma, appealed to the Ministry of Health to increase the number of ambulances in the district as the two were failing to meet the demand.
