MULENGA MUSONDA writes A 40-YEAR-OLD man pleaded guilty to trafficking in over 5 grammes of Cannabis before the Choma Magistrates Court. Andrew Kaunda a bus loader and resident of Choma’s Zambia Township is charged with Trafficking in Psychotropic Substances contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that Kaunda trafficked in 5.2 grammes of Marijuana, a herbal product of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority or medical recommendation. The incident is said to have happened on 6 May 2020. Kaunda was apprehended on the same day. When he appeared for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo, he admitted the charge read against him. Court: Have you understood the charge read to you? Kaunda: Yes Court: Do you admit or deny? Kaunda: I admit Court: Did you possess the Marijuana? Kaunda: Yes Court: How much was it? Kaunda: It was 2 balls. Court: Did you have authority to possess the Drug? Kaunda: No Court: Any justification? Kaunda: It was for smoking. Court: I record a plea of guilty. After entering a plea of guilty Magistrate Mupemo adjourned the matter to a later date after the state made the application for an adjournment. The matter will come up on 26th May for Facts, records and sentencing. Kaunda was remanded in custody as the offence is non bailable. The Sun
