CHIPIMO TIPS NEXT GOVERNMENT ON CORRUPTION
LAWYER and former National Restoration party leader Elias Chipimo has advised the next administration that will run government to take a thorough approach to the issue of corruption and not a retributive one. Chipimo stated on his Facebook page, where he dismissed a letter that has gone viral suggesting that he was preparing to Chair a commission of inquiry on corruption that corruption had become a challenge as it was now endemic. “A statement in which I purport to be preparing to Chair a Commission on Corruption was brought to my attention three days ago by someone who saw it in a PF blog,” read his statement in part.“I thought it would die there but whoever crafted it clearly had other ideas. I see that it is now doing the rounds on social media. While it was not drafted by me and uses language that I would not utter, it does express an important issue that should not be ignored by the incoming administration. “ Chipimo said although the letter was not drafted by him , the topic of corruption highlighted in the letter was a sad reality in zambia because the scourge had become part of the Zambian culture. “The sad reality, however, is that corruption in Zambia is so endemic it has become part of our common culture,” he stated. “Dealing with it therefore, requires a thorough response and not just a retributive reaction.”
