Chipata Step-daughter defilement case goes to High Court
ZANIS—The Chipata Magistrate Court has referred a 33-year-old man of Chieftainess Msoro’s to the High Court for sentencing after he was found guilty of defiling his 8 year oldstep daughter. Charles Ngoma, who is a Malawian national, appeared before Magistrate Moses Mkumba Phiri for judgement in a matter where he is charged with defilement of a child under the age of 16. Particulars of the offence are that Ngoma on 2 July 2019 in Chipata defiled a child under the age of 16 who is also his step daughter. However, in his defence Ngoma denied the charge stating that he does not know anything about the matter. Passing judgement, Magistrate Phiri said that the evidence from his wife, the mother of the minor and the medical report obtained from the hospital corroborates that there was defilement on the part of the child. “The wife caught him again in January attempting to defile the same girl but he apologised but repeated the same thing again in July where the wife failed to keep it and reported him to the police,” he said. Magistrate Phiri said the wife told the court that Ngoma also attempted to defile the same child in January 2019 and later apologized after he was caught by the wife. “Ngoma did not challenge this evidence from his wife. The state proved the case beyond reasonable doubt and found Ngoma guilty of the charge and sent him to the High Court for sentencing,” he said. The convict has been remanded in custody pending his sentencing in the High Court. The Sun
