Chicagos, DeCapos get LCC warning
LINDA SOKO TEMBO writes  THE Lusaka City Council (LCC) has issued a stern final warning to Chicagos, Decapo, Cock and Bull, Keg & Lion and Farley’s Pub and Grill for violating public health guidelines. LCC public relations manager, George Sichimba said on June 1 the Council had gave a 24 hours ultimatum to the above mentioned business entities to show cause why their licenses should not be revoked for contravening public health guidelines by allowing their restaurants to be turned into bars and night clubs. In a statement, Mr Sichimba said that the violations contravened the provisions of Statutory Instrument Nos. 21 and 22 of 2020 made under the Public Health Act Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia. Mr Sichimba said that all the five business owners responded in writing within the set ultimatum expressing remorse over what transpired at night on May 29. He said the meeting with the affected business owners was arranged on June 4 to receive oral submissions and chat the way forward and that the Council decided to sternly warn them not to repeat what they did.  Mr Sichimba said that the Lusaka Town Clerk, Alex Mwansa, sounded a stern warning that should the five business entities be found violating the set public health guidelines again, the Council would have no option but to revoke their licenses without further notifications. He said this was according to the final warning letters to the owners of the affected premises dated June 4 signed by Mr Mwansa. “Following your response in the letter dated June 4 and subsequent discussions in a meeting held on June, 4 between yourselves and the Local Authority in the Committee Room, Civic Centre,  “I wish to warn that should you continue to violate the guidelines given to you with regards to the operations of restaurants in the new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Council shall have no option but to revoke your license,” reads one of the letters in part,” he said. Mr Sichimba said that the authorised Council officers would continue to monitor their compliance and would recommend for revocation of licenses and prosecutions should they be found abrogating the regulations again. “LCC wishes to appeal to other restaurant operators in the city to always conduct their businesses within the confines of the public health guidelines under the new normal arrangement,” he said.
