CATHOLIC CHURCH HISTORICALLY REMAINS COMMITTED TO WORK WITH GOVERNMENT ON THE DAY
Catholic Church historically remains committed to work with government of the day Bishop of Ndola Dioceses, Benjamin Phiri has assured Vice President, Inonge Wina that the  Catholic Church historically remains committed to work with the government of the day. Bishop Phiri says the Catholic Church will always endeavour to work with government for the betterment of people’s wellbeing. ZANIS reports that Bishop Phiri  said  this yesterday when Mrs. Wina called on him in Ndola at the Cathedral of Christ the King that the Catholic Church and government remain strong partners in the provision of health, education and other social services. And Bishop Phiri has called for the promotion of peace by all Zambians especially during this period of elections because God loves the peace makers. “To this effect I have instructed the priest here to make sure  that all parishioners maintain the neutrality whenever they are at church. They need to consider themselves Christians nothing else,” the clergyman said. He also noted that he is happy that government has continued preaching peace also describing  President Edgar Lungu as someone that has a big heart for the people. And stressing that partnership between government and the Catholic Church is deep rooted , the Vice President says this scenario should be maintained forever. Mrs. Wina said there is need for church leaders to continue preaching peace to the general membership as government has taken it upon itself to continue doing so. “We are here to introduce President Edgar Lungu and our party’s running mate for the August 12 general election. But most importantly we are here to kindly ask you to help preach to the flock about peace. “ We know when you talk, they will listen and as a party we are doing the same to our members,” the Vice President said. She said Patriotic Front has instructed its members to refrain from violence and be able to contain any form of provocation however the gravity. The Vice President and her entourage is on a two-day working visit in the area to inspect projects among other programs. – ZANIS
