Boy drowns in soaker way

A nine year old boy of Muzabula area in Solwezi district has died after falling into a soaker way. North-Western Province Commissioner of Police, Joel Njase has confirmed the incident that happened yesterday around 13:00 hours. Mr Njase said the deceased identified as Bright Sheli (Jnr) fell into the soaker way which was filled with rain water and sustained a cut on the forehead as he was playing outside the house. “This information is in receipt of a report of sudden and unnatural death which occurred on February 3, 2021 at Muzabula area around 13 hours. “Reported by Sheli Bright aged 34 of the same aboard that his child Bright Sheli Jnr aged 9 fell into the collapsed soaker way  when he was outside the house playing,” Mr Njase said. He said the boy was rushed to Kimasala clinic and later referred to Solwezi general hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. “The victim sustained a cut on the forehead and instantly drowned in the same soaker way which was flooded with rain water. He was later rushed to Kimasala clinic which subsequently referred the victim to Solwezi general hospital where upon arrival he was confirmed dead,” Mr Njase said. He said the body is lying in the mortuary at Solwezi general hospital awaiting postmortem and burial, while police have opened an inquiry on the matter.
