BOGUS DEC OFFICERS ON THE LOOSE
By PETER SICHALI THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has warned the public to be wary of some unscrupulous people impersonating officers and extorting money from innocent citizens. DEC Public Relations Office, Mathias Kamanga said they have received intelligence information that some people were impersonating DEC officers and extorting money from the public particularly in Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces. Mr Kamanga said the unscrupulous individuals had been conducting illegal searches on unsuspecting people and business entities. They were also demanding for bribes from the victims But Mr Kamanga cautioned that DEC does not conduct searches on any premise without a search warrant. “Further, officers in the commission always carry a valid identification card and do not ask for bribes from any person to pervert the course of justice,” Mr Kamanga said.
