Blankets theft lands man in court
MULENGA MUSONDA Writes A 34 years old man of Choma strongly denied to stealing a Blanket among other items valued at more than K1 700. Before the Choma Magistrates Court was Moses Phiri who is charged with Theft contrary to section 272 of the Penal Code of the Laws of Zambia. Allegations are that Phiri stole 1 Blanket, 1 Sleeping Bag, a GoTV Decoder and 1 Cell Phone all valued at K 1,750 the property of Foster Luboshi. According to the indictment, the incident happened on 12th May 2020 in Choma and the accused was apprehended on 10th June. When matter came up for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo, the accused person strongly distanced himself from the allegations levelled against him. COURT: Mr Phiri have you understood the charge read to you? PHIRI: I have understood. COURT: Do you admit or deny? PHIRI: I deny. COURT: I record a plea of not guilty. Following a plea of not guilty, Magistrate Mupemo granted the accused person K1,000 Bail in his own recognisance with two traceable working sureties to be bound in the like sum and in their own recognisance. The matter was then adjourned to 10th June 2020 for trial after state prosecutor Pearson Chilumbu made the application. The Sun
