Betway boosts YASA Queens
MUKWIMA CHILALA writes @SunZambian Sports Betting Company Betway has donated training equipment to the Lusaka–based Women’sfootball outfit Yasa Queens Academy as part of their effort to support the growth of women soccer in Zambia. Yasa Queens, is an academy based in Lusaka’s Mtendere area founded 25 years ago and has produced some of Zambia’s top female soccer stars most of whom are in the National Women Soccer Team. And Betway Zambia Country Manager Panji Kakube notes that the donation of the training equipment represents the betting provider’s commitment to promoting equality of opportunity for female soccer players in Zambia. “We have made it our top priority to actively participate in the development of both male and female sports talents in Zambia, ” Kakube said. “For a long time sport has been viewed as man’s thing, sidelining women from participating actively in various sports discplines despite their ability, skill and most importantly their drive to excel. As Betway we hope to change that narrative thus our decision to associate ourselves with YASA Queens an organization that clearly represents all that we believe and stand for.” And Kakube noted that as a responsible corporate citizen, BetwayZambia has continued to fulfil its promise to help grow and develop sports in Zambia through community based activities under its corporate social responsibility initiatives. Yasa Queens spokesperson Danny Chima said that the donation will go a long way in supplementing its efforts in creating a conducive sporting environment for players. “As Yasa Queens we are delighted and humbled by this donation which has been made by BETWAY, it will go a long way in supplementing our efforts in creating a conducive sporting environment for our players,” Chima said. “As a female football academy we are always in need of support, be it technical, financial or moral support. It is our prayer that other corporate entities will emulate betway, by fulfilling their duties as corporate citizens driven by passion to empower local communities in whatever way possible,” Also present at the event were Betway Zambia Ambassador Christopher Katongo and Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) deputy General Secretary Joseph Chimpampwe.
