MUKWIMA CHILALA writes THE return of the league must be approached with extra caution because players have been away for a long time so the coach will have to look at how the players will respond the first few days regarding adaptability to training, Doctor Joseph Kabungo has said. And Kabungo says it can only take approximately a month before players are comfortably safe to return play. Kabungo a sports medicine expert and former National Team Doctor said during this period there was also need for a good medical done because the country was still in the COVID-19 era. He noted that there was need for players to   be very cautious and take it easy as they returned to training. Kabungo said that players needed to be well evaluated before they are actually introduced to routine preparations for the games. He noted that it was a delicate situation that needed extra caution due to the fact that the risk of getting injuries for players was very high because of the timing. “It is a very delicate question because we are not sure what players have been doing the time they are been off since March , definitely there should have some Psychological changes happening and some of them might be negative to the players as some of them might have completely stopped doing individual training,” Kabungo said . “Players have been away for a long time, they can’t be at the same fitness levels .So the coach will have to look at how the players will respond the first few days,” The former National Soccer Team said there was need to give players enough as the approximate period was four weeks so as to avoid the risk of injuries. Government through the ministry of sport given an indication that the league could open soon after consultations with all stakeholders were finalized.
