MATHEWS NDANDULA writes GEORGE Gondwe, populary known as “Atlanta” currently President of the Disability Sport Federation of Zambia (DSFOZ) has declared interest to stand as President of the National Paralympic Committee of Zambia (NPCZ) at the next Elective General Meeting scheduled for September 2020. Mr Gondwe confirmed this in a statement to the media on Thursday saying he has been active in disability sports for about 29 years. “I have been actively in Disability Sports for the past 29 Years as an athlete as well as an Administrator. During this time, I gave acquired a lot of knowledge, experience and skills in running and affectively managing sports for the disabled. “The most recent evidence of this is the current state of affairs prevailing in the Disability Sport Federation of Zambia (DSFOZ) I have managed to introduce various Sports such as Wheelchairs Marathon, Para-Badminton, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Tennis, Basketball, Powerlifting and working on introducing Swimming Judo and Handball. I have managed also to bring on board various Organizations that help us with Sports Equipment such as the Germany Embassy, NOWSPAR, NOCZ, ShopRite Manda Hill and Sports in Action, that have partnered with us in various areas,” he stated. Mr Gondwe, who is very optimistic of bringing development in sports if given the chance by the voters, was quick to highlight some of what he intends to do once voted into office. “I intend to bring a new breath of life to the National Paralympic Committee of Zambia, which for year and years has not been active, has not produced Athletes in any Sports. Very few people even known of its existence. The Disabled athletes have been let down too long. It’s time that Zambia should arise and be like other Countries that have made so much progress in Disability Sports. “I offer myself to lead a new and vibrant National Paralympic Committee of Zambia, that will revive Disability Sports in Zambia. They don’t call me Atlanta George Gondwe for nothing!!!” said Gondwe. The Sun
