Speaking after the signing ceremony at the Ministry of Sports for a two-year contract, the Chipolopolo gaffer said he planned to abide by the football development objectives set up by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ). “I am not here to fail, we are on performance-based yes i need to tell you that you need to go step-by-step we are heading to so-called development objectives that have been achieved,”Micho said. Meanwhile, Government has assured coach of support as Zambia bids to once again lift a continental trophy. Speaking to the media after the signing ceremony, Minister of Sports Emmanuel Mulenga said government will support the new coach and expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on expectations. “You are taking up the Zambia national football team coach job at a time when Zambian people are so desirous of seeing the country qualifying to the Africa cup of Nations, reaching the finals at the CHAN. after having already qualified to the Cameroon tournament and qualifying to the Qatar 2022 World Cup,” Mulengasaid. “It is therefore, our national conviction that you will live to these expectations. As Government, the Ministry responsible for sports, we will give you all the support that you need.” The minister also urged the coach to use the resumption of football under the new normal in identifying the best players for the national squad. “It’s our hope that, you will use the privilege of resumption of football, under the new normal way of living with the pandemic, to monitor the capabilities of players from the local league and professional players from around the world to assemble strong teams which will deliver to the expectation of the nation,” the minister said. And the newly signed Zambia National soccer team coach said he has come to make progress not to fail. “I am not here to fail, we are on a performance-based contract. Yes I need to tell you that you need to go step-by-step. We are heading to so-called development objectives that have to be achieved, Zambia is the best in Under17, U20 and Under-23 in the region presently,” he said. “Zambia has won 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations here in Zambia and being quarterfinals of the World Cup. We are champions of COSAFA, we are having sets of friendly matches in front of us and we want to go step-by-step to inject the confidence inside our players to make them aware that every single step they do they do for the nation.” The coach said he will not talk much but results will speak for themselves saying the Zambian football fans needs to believe again. “I believe in all these people that are supporting I believe in work that we shall do as a technical team. And the most important, I believe in players in their talent and quality,” he said. The Sun
