Abandoned former UPND cadres arrive in Solwezi
By JACKSON MAPAPAYI THE 86 UPND members who were abandoned in Lusaka from Solwezi by their leaders have returned to their homes. This follows the intervention by the Patriotic Front (PF) leadership in Lusaka who provided transport and other logistics to get back to Solwezi after being stuck at inter-city bus terminus. PF provincial chairperson, Jackson Kungo, and other senior party officials received the cadres, who have since defected to the ruling party. Mr Kungo urged the new members to reciprocate by voting for all PF candidates including President Edgar Lungu on August 12, this year. He advised the new members to start forming more branches ahead of polling day. Mr Kungo thanked the party leadership in Lusaka for aiding the 86 former UPND members. He said the gesture would not go unnoticed and that on behalf of the people in the province, he was indebted. “As your provincial chairperson, I want to assure you that we will give you maximum votes come August 12. We are not going to let you down,” he added. He said people have realised that the only choice is President Lungu hence the people joining the party.
