68 boreholes drilled in Mulobezi

ANDREW MUKOMA writes MULOBEZI Town Council in Western province has embarked on drilling of boreholes in order to fulfil its mandate of providing clean and safe drinking water. So far, 68 boreholes have drilled in various parts of the district. The local authority has partnered with Western Water and Sewerage Company (WWSC) to connect water pipes in Sichili. Mulobezi Council Public Relations Officer, Elvis Muleya, said the local authority would drill more boreholes to ensure that there was steady supply of clean water. Mr Muleya said water was one of the essential commodities in the country and it was vital that it was made available to the people at any cost. “As you may be aware, 68 boreholes have already been drilled and equipped in the district as one of the interventions that the government through the local authority has undertaken,” Mr Muleya said. He added that the district was also putting a solar powered water scheme which was almost completed. “We are working together with Western Water and Sewerage Company in making sure that people get their houses connected to piped water supplied “The works have already commenced and very soon, people will have their houses connected and other institutions in the district also connected,” Mr Muleyasaid. He said, when completed, this intervention would reduce drastically water challenges residents were facing in the area. “Two boreholes where water will be tapped from have so far been drilled in Sichili ward and a tank of 250 meter cubic (250, 000 litters) has already been raised just to make sure that people receive clean and safe drinking water,” he said Mr Muleya stated that Mulobezi Town Council would continue to partner with different organizations in order to foster development and see to it that people received the much needed services.
