6 year old recued in Kabwe’s Poleni area
AN alert neighbourhood in Kabwe’s Poleni area rescued a six year old boy from being burnt by his relatives for failing to read and count in numeric terms. It was the appeals of the boy who was tied to a tree and a burning brazier placed under him that caught the attention of the neighbours who eventually rescued the boy and later alerted the police. The owner of the house only identified as Mrs Mulenga expressed shock at the action by her nieces whom she said were being looked after well. Mrs Mulenga who was away on personal errands in town at the time the ordeal was happening said she would not consent to such an action. She said the victim was treated like any other child in the house and the behaviour by her other two dependents was shocking to her. “I cannot support such an action ,I did not consent to them doing such a thing to the boy, this boy is my husband’s nephew and am the one looking after him, am shocked,” she lamented. The two female perpetrators aged 18 and 20 respectively could not give a proper explanation and could not give a meaningful explanation for their actions. They explained that they boy was refusing to read and count numerically prompting them to start beating him whilst tied to the tree. Alert neighbours eventually came to the boy’s rescue after hearing the cries of the six year old. The neighbours alerted the police who went to the scene and took the perpetrators and their guardian for questioning. The ordeal has shocked the neighbours who were visibly annoyed and wanted to manhandle the two perpetrators. A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity said they found the boy tied to a tree by both hands and legs. “We found the boy tied while one of the girls was whipping him, when we got closer, we found a burning brazier under the boy, hats we organised ourselves and alerted the police,” the neighbour narrated. And some onlookers said such acts are barbaric and the perpetrators need to be brought to book. – ZANIS The Sun
