30,000 face masks targeted – Foloko

MATHEWS NDANDULA writes from Kabwe ABOUT 30,000 face masks will be distributed in all judo clubs across the county as the Covid-19 preventive initiative is rolled out says Zambia Judo Association president Alfred Foloko. Initially the association had planned for 10,000, but due to the multitude of requests received, the distribution will now increase to 30,000 masks to be shared with Judo bodies across the country. An estimated K200,000 has been set aside in as the ZJA contribution to the Government fight against Covid-19. The leadership of president Foloko for its continued support towards them, this came to light after the association made a donation of face masks, second hand clothes and judo work suits. Speaking after receiving the donation in Kabwe, Zamda Sables acting director Fredrick Mulando said the face masks will help judokas in protecting them from acquiring coronavirus and the move demonstrated the positive aspects of sports activities in a community. Meanwhile, ZJA president Alfred Foloko has called for children who are still on the streets to be directed to a centre where they can receive relevant support. Foloko, who is also National Olympic Committee of Zambia president has thanked the co-operating partners International Judo for Peace (IJF) and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Sports Confederations (NIF). Meanwhile, ZJA General Secretary Mabvuto Ng’uni has said that judo body remained conscious of the directive by the Head of State towards kicking out Covid-19, hence the Mask Up campaign, which they have embarked on country wide to make sure all the Judokas are safe where ever their association is present. He adds that schools have also been targeted in the programme so that as schools re-open on 1 June, pupils in examination classes should not worry about owning a face mask. The Sun
