25,000 PEOPLE EMPOWERED IN CHAMA
The Edgar Chagwa Lungu Multi-purpose co-operative ( ECL-MPC ) has empowered  Twenty Five Thousand (25,000) members  from 100 co-operatives in Chama district of Muchinga Province, with farming inputs, egg incubators, water pumps  and other assorted items. The 100 co-operatives are from two constituencies, namely Chama North and South Constituencies with 50 co-operatives each, respectively. ECL-MPC Cooperative Coordinator, Chansa  Kaumba  said the empowerment is from President Edgar Lungu’ s pocket,  is meant to help uplift the standard of living of people in the area. Mr Kaumba urged the beneficiaries to put the empowerment they have received to good use so that they are able to sustain themselves going forward. “This is an empowerment coming from the pockets of President Edgar Lungu aimed at uplifting the living standards of ordinary Zambian citizens and so let’s put to good use this empowerment so that it can have an impact on our lives as beneficiaries, ” said Mr. Kaumba. Mr. Kaumba  said the President takes into consideration the needs of the vulnerable when helping the community. The empowerment given to co-operatives includes broiler chicks, starter and grower chicken feed, roofing sheets and cement, water pumps, sewing machines, incubators and groceries. Meanwhile Chama North member of parliament Darious Mumba who officiated at the lunch of the distribution of  the Edgar Chagwa Lungu Multi-purpose Empowerment package,  thanked President Edgar Lungu for initiative . Mr.  Mumba said President Lungu wants Zambian citizens to benefit from the empowerment he has initiated adding that it is the desire of the President that no one is left behind in this initiative. “This empowerment programme from the Republican President Edgar Lungu started sometime back with other provinces and districts and am sure here in Chama you were wondering as to when your turn will come to receive your share and today is your time to get what the President reserved for you, ” said Mr.  Mumba. And Chama District Commissioner Leonard Ngoma said the empowerment has come at the right time and will help a lot of families. Mr.  Ngoma appealed to the business community not to entice the beneficiaries to sale the goods they have received to them. “The business community here has capacity to buy off all the items that our co-operatives have received but am appealing to the business men and women not to do that, ” said Mr. Ngoma. The DC has also thanked the Republican President for the gesture.   The empowerment given to cooperatives includes broiler chicks, starter and grower chicken feed, roofing sheets and cement, water pumps, sewing machines and groceries. Meanwhile, Chief Lundu of the Senga speaking people thanked President Lungu for his efforts in trying to better the lives of citizens especially the vulnerable in society. Chief Lundu who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries said the empowerment will transform their lives also thanked President Edgar Lungu for his commitment to better the lives of the Zambian people.
