2021 COVID-19 ALERT!
SANFROSSA MANYINDA writes @SunZambian THE Medical for Quality Healthcare in Zambia (MQHZ) has warned that the country might in January 2021 pay the price of violating the COVID-19 protocols during the festivities. MQHZ Director General, Quince Mwabu, observed that the country faced the worst week since it started responding to the outbreak. Dr Mwabu said it was very disheartening to see Zambians not complying with COVID-19 guidelines despite the country having recorded more cases this week than in any other previous weeks. “It appears that our appeals to Zambians over the last few months have not been heeded and we have gone ahead with business as usual. “Our treatment centres are slowly filling up and very soon our COVID centres will start struggling to find oxygen to manage the patients,” he said. Dr Mwabu, however, said the country still had an opportunity to liaising with Government through the Ministry of Health to be more purposeful in implementing the measures that were collectively agreed on. He added that, in terms of the new variant, there was no change in the presentation of symptoms, except that it was more transmissible which would mean more cases, including critical ones and the possible increase in fatalities.
