2 YOUTHS SENTENCED 1 YEAR FOR HOUSING BREAKING, THEFT
By Mulenga Musonda Instead of selling or watching the Television set that they stole, two youths of Choma will spend one year behind bars learning a life skill and watching free television bought by the state for their criminal behavior. In this matter, the Choma Magistrates Court sentenced Clement Musilizo and Benjamin Mulende both 21 years of age to 1 year imprisonment for House Breaking and Theft contrary to the laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that the two, jointly and whilst acting together broke into Catherine Siambulo’s house and stole therein one Television set valued at K2, 500 the property of the named Siambulo. When the two appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo for plea, they without coercion admitted the charge against them, with Mulende stating that he was the one that packed the TV in a sack as they left the scene of crime. According to the facts stated by senior public prosecutor Alex Syulikwa, the complainant was greeted by an open door to her house when she returned from seeing her neighbour’s. When she entered the house, she discovered that that her LED Television set was missing but luckily her 13 years old neighbour saw Musilizo coming from the house with another man carrying a sack, a piece of information that led to his apprehension. Magistrate Mupemo found the two accused persons guilty in their own admission and sentenced each one of them to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour in order to deter would be offenders.
