2 juveniles, 4 others in court for stealing 26 herds of cattle?
Mulenga Musonda writes @SunZambian Two juveniles have appeared in the Choma Magistrates Court facing five counts of allegedly stealing 26 herds of Cattle valued at more than K100, 000. In this matter, the two juveniles are jointly charged for Stock Theft with four other adults contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Allegations in the five counts collectively are that the two minors, jointly and whilst acting with Alex Mweemba ,45, Innocent Ngandu  ,38, a Community Health Worker, Kissinger Kwebenge ,42, and Erthon Munyati ,42, all of Mapanza area in Choma stole 26 herds of cattle from different farmers all valued at K101, 000. The thefts are said to have occurred in the month of November 2020 in Choma district of Southern Province. When they appeared for plea before Principal Resident Magistrate Idah Mupemo, they all strongly denied the charges against them compelling the Court to record pleas of not guilty in their respect. Following pleas of innocent recorded, the complainant in the first count Talisila Baanya who happens to be the fourth accused person’s mother (Ngandu) tried to have the charges dropped against her son, but the Court was not for the idea and instead left it in the hands of the State. The matter was adjourned to January 12, 13, and 14, 2021 for commencement of trial after Senior Public Prosecutor Charles Chinzai applied for an adjournment in order to have all the witnesses before Court. The two juveniles were remanded in custody while the other four adults had their police bonds extended.
