Ms Katongo said the victims who died had been identified as Maureen Makala 43 of Monze District and Mavis Namwinga 38 of Lusaka West. In a statement, Ms Katongo said the accident involved a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number BAK 9996 fleet that was being driven by Lony Makala 32 of Kanyama Compound in Lusaka. “Two female adults have died while seven other passengers sustained injuries in the afternoon road traffic accident which occurred on May 3 at about 09:30 hours at Munyumabisi area about 15 kms from Monze  Central Business District ( CBD),” she said. Ms Katongo said that the seven passengers who had been injured were admitted at Monze Mission Hospital. Meanwhile,  police in Mpika District have apprehended a 20-year-old mother for dumping her newly born infant in a Pit latrine, Muchinga Commissioner of police Joel Njase has said. Mr Njase said that the incident happened on April 30 around 06:00 hours and that people heard the baby crying in the pit latrine. He said when the police rushed to the scene after a tip off by a member of the public found that Florence Kalyati had dumped the baby in the pit latrine. In an interview with the Sun, Mr Njase said that the suspect admitted that she was nine months pregnant and that she had gone to the toilet and started bleeding and that she gave birth and dumped the baby in the latrine.   Mr Njase said that information had gone round at Kamuwanya village Chief Chikwanda that the suspect had given birth to a baby who was alive, threw it in the pit latrine, and allegedly threw some mad and stones until the baby died. “We received a report of infanticide at Mpika Police Station by a  member of the public reported through a phone that there was a young lady suspected to have been pregnant and given birth in the pit latrine. “The baby was even heard crying in the pit latrine. A follow up was made and indeed the suspect is 20 years and was apprehended and interviewed in relation to the allegation,” he said. Mr Njase said a medical report had been issued, the suspect had been admitted at Michael Chilufya Sata Hospital for further medical examinations, and the pit latrine secured to retrieve the body of the baby and bury it at the designed place.  The Sun
