100 bicycles procured for Police VSU

LINDA SOKO TEMBO writes  ZAMBIA Police Service has procured 100 bicycles meant for the officers under the Victim Support Unit (VSU) and the Community Services Division (CSD) as opposed to the 1000 bicycles as insinuated on social media Inspector General of Police KakomaKanganja has said. Mr Kanganja said that the bicycles would enable the officers respond to complaints in areas that were difficult to access by use of motor vehicles.  In a statement, Mr Kanganja urge members of the public to support the work that Government was doing for the men and women in uniform and avoid dragging the Zambia Police Service into politics. Mr Kanganja said that as the Police they had received donations of bicycles from various stakeholders, which were meant for effective policing. “In the past, the Zambia Police had been operating under very difficult conditions, in respect of housing, office accommodation, transport and uniforms, just to mention a few.  “However, when the new Government administration came into power they embarked on a robust programme to alleviate the challenges faced by the men and women in uniform, which has resulted in unprecedented infrastructure developments, transport and all types of uniform being procured,” he said.   Mr Kanganja said that as of now, the Police Service had received over one thousand housing units countrywide, buses, vans, uniforms of all kinds including raincoats and weather coats.  He said in August 2020 they were expected to receive trucks, Ambulances, specialized vehicles for use by Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Canine Section, Mounted Section, Anti-riot Water Cannons, Recovery Vehicles and Boats for the Marine Department.
